Deceptive advertising

  • The Manicou Reporter highlights what he/she views as a “deceptive and slyly-worded ad” by Caribbean Bottlers Limited, which to him/her is “a virtual loaded weapon to an unsuspecting and sometimes gullible public”
  • . Caribbean Bottlers Limited bottles Coca Cola products in Trinidad and Tobago. The Manicou is quick to note that he/she has no problem with Coca Cola, but certainly has one with Caribbean Bottlers’ advertising for the new Ciclon drink.

Hey Karen, do you think I have a case? Or am I just making something out of nothing?

I understand your argument about the subliminal messages present in that particular ad, and yes your points are valid. Perhaps the organisation is trying to capitalise on the current concern and campaigns about safe driving and preventing accidents, especially those that are due to drunk driving. Playing on the consciousness of people is an advertising tactic. Yet, companies need to remember that their social responsibility lies not just in sponsorships, donations and other “nice” activities. At its most fundamental, corporate social responsibility lies in being responsible and ethical in cultivating messages to consumers.

You said it so much better than I did, lol. Thanks for the reply, and sorry for misspelling your name :( (and being nice enough not to point it out, lol).
