Who should write IABC’s strategic plan? Paid staff or the board?
In a Ragan post today “IABC cops to communication failure, but that’s all” by David Murray, I read that “some IABC members”, including Mike Klein who is a board member of the Netherlands IABC chapter and the IABC Europe-Middle East region, are perturbed about the way the new, three-year, strategic plan was developed, and the fact that it was created by paid, headquarters staff and not the elected, executive board. Now, I’m not one of delve up in the politics of associations, but I thought that this issue will be of interest to some readers, especially those who are IABC members. After all, we do belong to the Association, so knowing of all the “happenings” is essential.
Todd Hattori of IABC’s board posted some core information in the plan on IABC Café (the blog), and members also responded, while identifying some areas of improvement for IABC’s webinars.Klein is in disagreement with the new process, and some elements in the plan, and has posted his views in this article (click link). Klein also blogs at CommsOffensive325.To be honest I’m not making comments on this, as I’ve only just seen it, and haven’t had time to process it all. So consider this an information bulletin. I invite you to read the articles on the issue. Feel free to make comments.
