Allyuh.com – Surfing T&T online

Every now and then, a friend, family member or acquaintance may call me for help on finding information specific to Trinidad and Tobago on the Internet. I often oblige since I’ve become quite adept of finding what I need. Google is the only search engine in the world. I kid, I kid. Seriously though, most people go to Google to find whatever they need. It’s the same in Trinidad and Tobago.

But this post is not about Google. It’s about
Allyuh.com. For those who don’t know the word “allyuh”, it’s a Creole term meaning all of you or you all; it refers to people as a collective, and has come to be known as a very Trini expression. Andres Alexander, creator of Allyuh.com, has put a lot of effort into growing the site. Originally the site started off as a blog, which looked at things happening in Trinidad and Tobago’s blogosphere, politics, business, and technology. Allyuh.com still features the blog.

On November 30, 2007, Dre (as he’s called on the site) unveiled a search engine that produces solely local results from Trinidad and Tobago websites and blogs. Allyuh.com takes queries and returns results from domains either within, about or related to Trinidad and Tobago. With the new version of Allyuh.com, people get relevant and customized information they need on Trinidad and Tobago from a range of content. So no more calling your friends to help you find information on T&T websites. Allyuh.com provides that service. Now obviously, this doesn’t eliminate the need for Google. In Allyuh’s words, it “gives local results faster”. As a matter of fact, Allyuh created its new search engine with help from Google. This means that Allyuh.com’s reliability for fast search results should operate efficiently, backed by Google power.

According to a news release from Allyuh:

“The new Allyuh.com is a complete redefinition of the local search experience. On average, it takes people four or more queries to find information on Trinidad and Tobago. This is because search engines have forced people to wade through endless lists of links, and refine query after query, to find the right information.

Allyuh reduces the amount of hunting and clicking it takes for people to find what they need regarding Trinidad and Tobago. We do this by delivering the right information, from the deepest range of local content, all on one clean and simple page. With Allyuh.com, we are taking a leap towards the future of local search.”

Personally, I applaud Dre’s efforts. Not everyone knows how to navigate search engines to get country specific information - although it’s easy for the adept ones - so for those who are not that great with searching the net, Allyuh’s new endeavour is great. What’s even better is that it searches solely Trini sites, which means you’re getting info from local sources, and if this search engine is widely used then these sites also get increased hits, so everyone wins.

Allyuh’s aim is to make it easy to find information pertaining to Trinidad and Tobago. Its plans for the future also include an Allyuh Toolbar, which enables you to conduct an Allyuh search from anywhere on the web. Allyuh (you all) should check it out, and see for yourselves.
